Pre-Kindergarten programs

Field Station offers two, three and five day programs for preschool aged children. The two day class focuses on acclimating children to the classroom experience with hands-on activities, daily outdoor hikes, song, dance, and fun! The three and five day classes focus on kindergarten preparation, cooperation, listening skills, and like our two day class, daily outdoor hikes, song, dance, and fun!

for 3 and 4 year olds


For enrollment in the 2 day program your child must be 3 years old by August 1st.

Projects and directed play and Free Choice Play

  • Painting and/or projects (cut-paste, 2 or 3 dimensional) subject related which has kindergarten-readiness skills incorporated within.

  • While a group of students are working on their projects, another group will have free choice time.

  • Play options during free choice time:

    • Water table: experimental (measuring, etc.) or subject related i.e. pond animals and plants, forest animals/rocks/trees/beaver sticks.

    • Building toys plus subject related action toys (North American animals, African animals, etc.)

    • Drawing/collage table

    • Unit related imaginative play area (pretend underwater explorer, rain forest canopy station, etc.)

Science experiments/snack preparation (sometimes the same thing) incorporating pre-kindergarten math and science skills.
