Parent Participation in the Classroom

Parents are required to volunteer in the classroom approximately once a month depending on class size. If a parent cannot volunteer due to work/school schedule, a friend, family member or babysitter may fill in as long as they have a criminal background check complete prior to volunteering. 

Other children, family members and friends are not allowed to accompany parents on volunteer days. It is distracting to both your child and the other children in the classroom. Alternative arrangements will need to be made for other children in your care on the days you volunteer. Many parents within the coop work out babysitting swapping schedules so all can have a chance to participate in the classroom.

Parents are also required to be part of a committee that are essential to help run and support the school. Our committees include:

Parent Participation Committee

The parent participation committee is in charge of educating new families about the cooperative and how it works immediately following their enrollment in the program and maintaining communications throughout the year.

Fundraising & Events Committee

These parents oversee and coordinate all events benefiting the school. This includes fundraising events as well as parent education meetings, open houses, family picnics, etc.

Housekeeping Committee

This committee is responsible for every aspect of cleanliness and cleaning supplies. The housekeeping committee keeps both of our buildings clean and ready for teaching.

Maintenance Committee

This committee is responsible for every aspect of maintaining the property. This covers a wide range of tasks including: plowing/shoveling, mowing, landscaping, cleaning out gutters, raking leaves, repairing/assembling items when necessary, changing filters, painting, hauling/carrying items in and out of the school, carpentry work, minor plumbing/electrical repairs, and pest control.

Meetings

The general coop membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the school. All board members and chairpersons are required to attend. All parents are encouraged to attend.
